Walk A Thon Up Date... I am accompanying Baba Elder Amefika Geuka on the ACE TREK as a surrogate walker....

Baba HazzardThis morning Baba G was interviewed by Alice Massimi, Reporter from WSAV NBC Channel # 3 in Savannah.... Please visit their web site at www.wsav.com to see the interview and you can connect to our website through there...

Please visit our blog for updates of our actions... with some what current historic info... We do not always stay at a motel with computer access or have time to get on line since we are both time and distance conscious... Due to heavy rains we were forced to abandon walking and took to riding through Savanna Ga after visiting the waterfront....

We are spending tonight July 24 just across the Ga. State line in Hardeville, South Carolina... Hopefully later tonight we will up date today's journey... We are tired and of need of rest and surrogate walkers to allow for our feet to heal from blisters... I need another pair of walking shoes... and a small tape recorder with cassettes to interview the supporters who stop along the road to offer encouragement or to offer rides... A tape recorder would allow me to record the info on the Historic Marker we are finding on the side of the road.

Baba HazzardHabari Gani... The news today is.... i have been on the road 8 days with Baba Elder Amefika and little  Sister Nadja and we are ahead of schedule and resting in Darien, Ga... on the way we had to get more copies of hand outs... We stopped at an AME Church and met Julia who made us almost 200 copies... they should last a few days...

While Baba G was walking US Hwy #17 north of Kingsland, Ga. a young Brother "Latrezz Singleton" turned around his vehicle and asked Elder Baba Geuka, "Do you needed a ride?" and a conversation ensued... I approached them in the support van as Baba G was explaining why he was on this two lane road, out in the tree shaded Georgia Forest... At this point in their conversation I returned to the support car and retrieved a copy of our handout...

Later along route US # 17 we stopped at a road side historic marker declaring the details of "Needwood Baptist Church" and the "Needwood School" building on the next lot... The marker read in part the following... "Needwood Baptist Church was started on the Broadfield Plantation in 1866... in 1870's the "Needwood Zion Baptist Church Association built a structure that was redesigned in 1885...." Both structures are still standing next to the historic marker.. "The church history is representative of the religious development of the Rice Plantation Culture..." near by the "one room school house provided elementary education from 1907 until desegregation in the '60's... both structures are models of "African American vernacular architecture."

Farther up US #17 passed a private sign announcing the "Hope Plantation 1763"... turning in the drive way gate between 2 white long rail fences hidden from the road behind several yards of scrub and trees....What we found behind the fence was a very populated, integrated, trailer park of several blocks... inhabited by mixed marriage families sitting on land that we concluded to be the land on which the "Hope Plantation" once utilized slave labor... I must find foot protection before we reach the next rest area...

That’s it for the night .. must re-bandage my blistered foot and get some sleep... tomorrow July 23... I must find foot protection before we reach the next rest area...
