INSTRUCTIONAL PHILOSOPHY

Joseph Littles Nguzo Saba Charter School is founded on a clear instructional philosophy with regard to instruction that will raise test scores and address variant student needs and learning style preferences. Teachers are trained by both school leaders and regional partners to use effective strategies that provide extensive opportunities for student learning. It is our objective to ensure all students are actively engaged in the learning process. Our focus is on the building and maintaining family and community. African centered education is based on character, kindness, individual development and community progress.  The African experience is the basis of universal comparisons for all core subjects. Factors include:

  • Making Instructional Connections
  • Task Engagement
  • Collaboration
  • Critical Thinking
  • Higher Order Thinking
  • Culturally Appropriate, Proactive Classroom Management
  • Effective Learning Activities

 INSTRUCTIONAL DELIVERY

  • The African educational model is based on values, with an objective to meet the challenge of filtering out the negative social and personal perceptions in order to explore and develop and understanding of the importance of human values.
  • Joy is evident in our work as African Centered educational leaders.
  • A variety of field trips are conducted since exposure and travel are vital to the Joseph Littles Nguzo Saba learning experience.
  • Our school model holds that African Centered education is the original world view through which success is measured by character.
  • We need an annual retreat to solidify our work, to demystify African Centered Education, and to introduce our programs to Africans outside the current cultural community.
